What is Tricare Virginia in the Process of?

Tricare Virginia is a health care program being run for the benefit of United Stated armed personnel, military retirees, and their dependents. It was previously known with the name of 'the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Uniformed Services' (CHAMPUS). The program was Tricare Management Activity (TMA) under the authority of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Health Affairs). Before the creation of this agency the health care and related services were provided for military personnel through military medical facilities. After the second world war and Korean war there was a shortage of health care services in military hospitals or it became unavailable.

Following this the United States Congress passed the Dependents Medical Care Act of 1956 which had gone through amendments through the Military Medical Benefits Amendments of 1966.
