TANF stands for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families which is one of the federal assistance programs in the United States. It was established on July 1, 1997. It provides the financial assistance to needy families with the dependent children by the United States Department of Health and Human Services. TANF is called as the welfare program specially meant for the poor people in the country. The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program was formed by the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act under the President Bill Clinton in 1996. The organization TANF provides help for the low income people and families so that children can be cared for in their houses, helpful to reduce the dependency of needy parents through promoting work, job preparation and marriage, encourage the maintenance and formation of two parent families and help to reduce the incident of out of wedlock pregnancies.
