Iowa Telecom was Telecommunication Company in Iowa State, which served the former customers of GTE. The Company operated as Iowa Telecommunications Services. Besides Iowa, it also served the communities in three other states including Missouri and Minnesota. The Company is headquartered in Newton, Iowa and served the community through 800 employees.
Iowa Telecom History
Iowa Telecom had commenced operation in 1999 and had come into existence as a joint venture between Iowa Network Services and ING Barings. The Company had purchased the assets of GTE, which operated behalf of Bell Atlantic in the state. Till the end of financial year of 2008, the company had 257,700 access lines. It serves more than 430 communities in the state. Iowa Telecom had acquired many small companies since its inception like PC Partner Communications, Lakedale Communications, Connections-ETC and Zumatel Communications. Many of these companies were located in Minnesota. Iowa Telecom was sold to Windstream Communication in 2009.
Windstream Communications is an Arkansas based company. It offers Cloud Computing, Broadband, Digital TV, etc., services to the customers through more than 14,000 employees. Founded in 2006, The Company is counted among the ten largest telephone service providing companies in the country. Addition to Iowa Telecom, the company has also acquired Nuvox, D&E Communications of Ephrata, Hosted Solutions and PAETEC Holding Corporation.
