main divisions of the company that are Hertz Car Sales UK, Hertz Equipment Rental and Hertz Car Sales.
The cars rented by the company for the first time were the Model T Ford
cars. It was in the year 1923 that the company was bought by John D. Hertz and thus became the subsidiary of Yellow Truck and Coach
manufacturing Company. After this acquisition, the name of the company was changed to Hertz Drive-Ur-Self System. The controlling interest of the company was bought by the General Motors
in the year 1925. The company is registered on the New York Stock Exchange for public trading since 1953.
Hertz is operating in over 145 countries of the world. The company became the second largest car rental company in America
by sales as of November 2012. Hertz also owns Hertz Equipment Rental Corporation (HERC), a heavy equipment rental company. The company employs more than 30,000 people worldwide.
